355th AEW Valentine’s Party 2018

The 355th Aviation Engineer Wing held a joint Valentine and 1st Quarter Socials last 10 February 2018 at MPB, 355th AEW, Basa Air Base, Floridablanca, Pampanga – the Home of the “PAF Builders”. Indeed, the first two-months of the year was a very busy one for our Unit. We continue to maintain troops at Marawi City, while at the same time completing a road net project at CERAB. Needless to say, that despite a very tight schedule, it is also important to unwind and release unwanted pressures from our work, which we are able to achieve during Wing Social Activities. In these Social Activities, we discovered that most of our personnel are not just good carpenters and painters but are also good dancers and singers. To top it all, BRIGADIER GENERAL ROLANDO S ACOP AFP, our Wing Commander, 355th AEW left a simple but very heartwarming message, when he quoted a line from the CGPAF’s speech rendered during the first Monday flag raising rites at CJVAB, when he said: “Love goes beyond romantic relationships, it is also about family love and love for our nation”.

Title X Project at CERAB

Last 16 November 2017, the 355th Aviation Engineer Wing was directed to undertake the Concreting and Rip-rapping of Durungawan Road at CERAB, CMVR, Capas, Tarlac. Prior to deployment, security and safety briefings were conducted last 10 November 2017 to provide important security and safety reminders needed to ensure the safety of our personnel while performing the mission. In preparation for said project, various heavy engineering equipment and individual requirements were transported, from Basa Air Base, Floridablanca, Pampanga to Col Ernesto Ravina Air Base, Capas, Tarlac from period 16-21 November 2017. Despite the late delivery of construction materials, our deployed personnel rechanneled their efforts and instead proceeded to: clearing and slope/road grading of road canal sides; hauling and backfilling of soil on eroded portion for rip-rapping; clearing, scraping of grass and leveling of parking area; fabrication of temporary facility for storage; subgrade preparation and compacting of soil at parking area; excavation of road canal; embankment of soil on the rip-rapping area; stockpiling of excavated soil; fabrication of road and canal forms; spreading, leveling, watering and compacting of base coarse at parking area; cutting of rebars for longitudinal and transverse dowels; installation of rebars, forms, pouring of concrete mix on slab and laying of CHB on road canal; and pouring of concrete mix at parking area. Since the project was funded by Title X Funds (US Balikatan), this will serve as another challenge to us, that our American counterparts can also appreciate, the degree of workmanship expected from 355th AEW.

However, he was also quick to remind the personnel that: “we must not rest on our laurels...” but on the contrary “let us continue to be motivated to pursue our missions for CY-2018…”. In addition, BGEN ACOP also took the opportunity to thank the Commanding General, PAF for his continuous support to 355th AEW. With this, he correlated and re-echoed the personal mantra of the then COL RECAREDO R ALBANO PAF, the first Wing Commander of 355th AEW: “give us (355th AEW) the means and we (355th AEW) will deliver!”. In the end, the proverbial bind that ties together each and every personnel of 355th AEW was again tightened in the pursuance of a single aspiration.

355th AEW Christmas Party 2017

The men and women of 355th Aviation Engineer Wing were gatheredtogether with their families to have fun, enjoy each other’s company and share the gifts and festive meals prepared by different groups last 16 December 2017. The essence of this year’s celebration of Christmas party as said by our Wing Commander, BGEN ROLANDO S ACOP AFP, “…it is very fitting not only to recognize but to pay tribute to all the twenty six (26) officers; two hundred seventy two (272) enlisted personnel; sixteen (16) civilian employees and three (3) other employees for all the hard works throughout the year. Similarly, I also like to take this opportunity to recognize another sets of unsung heroes of this unit – the love ones/dependents of our personnel who themselves had to personally endure their respective share of sacrifices to fill the void left by their husbands or wives who were deployed to our far flung assignments like Marawi, Kalayaan Group of Island and Durungawan.”
